The title comes from Alexander Pope's couplet from The Dunciad -

Thy hand, great Anarch! lets the curtain fall;

And universal Darkness buries All.


I sincerely hope there is no sequel to this.

I don't recall the poem, but have enjoyed much of Pope's writings in spite of my opinion that he can be too didactic sometimes.

I really love the contrast in this painting, CK - the variation in tone gives so much depth to the work. The gradients in the sky are also very well done and the detail in the wall far behind the two figures is very impressive.

Thanks Michael. I have also not read much of Pope. Actually, there is a semiautobiographical work by one Nirad Chaudhary, a scholar of Indian origin who settled in Britain and came to dislike India - the title of that work is - thy hand, great anarch.That made me look up the original.

Thanks for the detailed appreciation of the painting. It helps me a lot.

Yes I hope there will be no sequel to your Irak series ! Obama said so but lately he's changed his mind about a lot of stuff I think :(
Amazing as always. I'd love to see it in a little larger view tho (the whole not only the women faces).

Obama needs close watching, yes. Things are slowly turning sour there, I too feel.

As with all of your works apart from perceiving a strong human element, I am not looking for any political content. I often tend to view paintings purely from an artistic and creative perspective.
I hope that my bias does not put you off because I like your work very much. I love the sense of intensity and passion and dramatic color that are an integral part of all your handy work.
This is another really intriguing piece.

Far from being ';put off' by your a-political viewing of my work, in fact I take it as a compliment that even without the political content you find my work interesting.

For those who may agree [or may not] with my political views, the painting as such does not matter, message counts for more.Until very recently I too never bothered about aesthetics of it but these days I pay some attention to it as a painting too.

That is why, your feedback , becuase of your way of looking at it, becomes important to me.Glad I requested you to have a look, and thanks again for having done so.
